Established in 1990 by a decree from the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Bukhara State Medical Institute initially comprised solely the medical faculty. However, its growth trajectory quickly expanded with the establishment of the Stomatological Faculty in 1992.
Today, the institute boasts six faculties: the medical faculty, faculty of dentistry, faculty of medical education and higher nursing, faculty of pediatrics, medical biology and medical prevention, international faculty, and advanced training faculty for physicians. Each faculty encompasses multiple departments offering a wide array of undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
Research plays a pivotal role in the institute’s endeavors, with both students and faculty actively engaged in projects spanning various disciplines including chest surgery, abdominal cavities, immunity science, pharmacology, biochemistry, and morphology. Additionally, investigations into the influence of ecological factors on diseases and treatment methods are ongoing.
The institute’s newspaper, “Heirs of Ibn Sina,” serves as a conduit for discussions encompassing institute life, student and staff activities, with a primary focus on scientific, pedagogical, spiritual, and educational initiatives.
Situated in Bukhara, Uzbekistan, the institute benefits from its location steeped in religious history. Bukhara’s UNESCO World Heritage Site status underscores its significance, with 140 protected buildings adorning its historic center. Noteworthy features include impressive architecture, a meticulously preserved royal fortress, and remnants of its vibrant former marketplace.
